The Illusionist includes brief depictions of two little people in an attempt to wordlessly convey whimsy in an animated film with minimal dialogue. An aging French magician seeks out new audiences in new towns, and finds himself staying at an Edinburgh hotel full of circus performers: the person manning the front desk appears to be of average height at first, but when he emerges from the booth he opens the lower half of a door and walks through. Later, as the magician becomes more disillusioned, he comes across the unnamed little people doing more mundane things such as scrubbing the staircase.
