Disability isn’t a major plot point in The In-Laws, but it is notable that the main character, deep-cover CIA operative Steve Tobias, wears a brace on one knee. When Jerry Peyser, a podiatrist Tobias dragged into some undercover shenanigans, complains that he doesn’t feel secure with a decrepit agent on his side, Tobias explains that the brace is a fake intended to distract airport security from the knife in his shoe. (Ah, people with genuine disabilities remember fondly the days when they weren’t forced to take off their shoes for airport security…) Indeed, the knee brace is shown to hide a collection of tiny tranquilizer darts.
